Indirect Peer Pressure. How to Deal with It?

Have you ever seen your friends doing drugs or drinking alcohol and felt like you need to join in too?

You don’t need someone to LITERALLY pressurise you in order for it to be called “peer pressure.”  Are you feeling pressured to join in something that goes against what you think is right, but no one is actually TELLING you to do something? This is called Indirect Peer Pressure.

You would think that if no one is persuading you to do something, the chances to fall for it are slim. But BE CAREFUL, this is not the case. This type of pressure can actually be just as tempting because, let’s face it… no one wants to be left out.

How can you avoid this?

It sounds difficult, but… just AVOID it. Don’t surround yourself with friends whose actions make you feel uncomfortable. Make friends and hang around with those who share the same (or similar) values as you! You will see that you’ll enjoy hanging out with them much more.

It might be tough to avoid in the beginning, but once you do, peer pressure will have less of an effect on you and you will see that saying NO is easier than you thought.
