World Vegan Month is here, and we can start celebrating!
This month first occurred in 1994 as a way of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the UK Vegan Society. Its purpose is to promote the benefits of a vegan diet, veganism and the term “Vegan”.
So, what is Veganism?
It’s avoiding all acts of cruelty against animals. That means having a plant-based diet (no meat, dairy milk, eggs or honey) and also avoiding buying products that are made while hurting animals like leather clothes or cosmetics which a tested on animals.
Why is being vegan beneficial?
A well-balanced vegan diet promotes good health, and we get from it all the protein, vitamins and minerals we need. Besides that, the amount of water used for the production of meat is huge, so as vegans, we are also helping the environment (which is great for everyone!).
What can I do to celebrate this month?
If you want to go 100% vegan – that’s amazing! If that’s too much for now, you can host a vegan party, ask for vegan options at restaurants or cook vegan meals.
Try out these tasty recipes: Thai Pineapple Fried Rice, Granola Bars and Cupcakes. All of them are from Helen Doron’s Healthy & Delicious cookbook, which you can find in the learning centre closest to you.
Bonus fact: There are so many vegan celebs! Ariana Grande, Zac Efron, Sia, Venus Williams, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Lea Michele and many more are all vegan and loving it!
Enjoy this fabulous month and share with us pictures of the delicious vegan food you made 🙂
