The sun is out, we seek shade and try to do whatever we can to stay cool. Here are our top 5 surprising ways to stay cool this summer:
- Plant or Get Houseplants
Houseplants can make a room feel cooler because they release moisture into the air. They can also improve your mood (great when you are cranky from the heat) and purify the air.
- Up Your Vitamin C Intake
Vitamin C increases tolerance for heat by “helping” the sweat gland work – that means we feel the heat a bit less than it is. You can find Vitamin C in oranges, red peppers, strawberries and many more fruits and vegetables.
- Make the Most of the Evening
When the evening comes and it gets cooler, open your windows to cool your home naturally. Besides that, spend time outside: cook dinner in the backyard, walk in the park and sit with friends in the garden.
- DIY: Rice Pillow
Rice isn’t just for eating! If you want to cool down on a hot night – fill a sock with rice, tie it and put it in the freezer for about an hour. The small DIY pillow will stay cool for up to 30 minutes, enough time for you to fall asleep.
Eat a Lot of Water-Rich Food
Make your snack a healthy one by eating food that has water inside. Watermelon, cantaloupes and cucumbers contain a lot of water and make the perfect summer snack.
