Music artists aren’t just about making music and living a life of fame and fortune. Some put their fame, power and money to good use and give back to the world.
In the wake of tragedy, Ariana Grande chose to respond in a powerful manner. After a tragic bombing at her Manchester concert in May this year, the popstar diva gathered some of her friends, including Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Robbie Williams (just your average bunch of friends) to perform at a benefit concert in Manchester to raise money for the victims and the families affected by the attack. Can you believe that tickets were sold out within only six minutes of them going online?
On the 4th of June, the day of the concert, she proved to the concertgoers and people watching live from around the world, how music can bring communities together, and how spreading love and happiness is what conquers all and what really matters in the end. Don’t you agree? 50,000 people attended the concert and a whopping 17 million pounds were raised, thanks to Ariana’s brilliant idea! If you weren’t able to take part or watch the concert from home, then you can still watch the playlist of all the artists on YouTube. Have a box of tissues with you though, because this young diva really puts all her heart into making this benefit concert one to remember and makes you turn on the waterworks from the very beginning. Someone pass me a tissue please!
Even though Ariana’s benefit concert was an inspiration, it wasn’t the first. There have been many benefit concerts hosted by celebrities in the past. One of the most well-known benefit concerts is “Live Aid”, which took place in 1985. Bob Geldof arranged the concert in an attempt to raise money for those starving in Africa (especially Ethiopia). Even though you weren’t born at the time, you still will probably know of the artists who attended the concert, such as: Sting, U2, Queen, Paul McCartney and David Bowie… any of these sound familiar? This concert raised a staggering 150 million pounds towards starvation in Africa!
If these benefit concerts interest you, then you can always check out the top benefit concerts that have taken place so far. Who knows who will be the next star to host the next big charity event? We will just have to wait and see.
